#LiveLikeLuke Beach Cleanup - Greenwich CT

The spring weather cooperated in a major way at Tod’s Point on April 24th, as the 2nd Annual #LiveLikeLuke Beach Cleanup took place — and over 1,000 volunteers (with help from the Greenwich High School Environmental Action Club, Greenwich Green & Clean, Skip The Straw, the Greenwich Shellfish Commission and other local environmental groups) worked together to make a positive impact on the Greenwich coastline!

This beach cleanup was organized in memory of Luke Meyers, a GHS student and dedicated environmental advocate who lost his battle with cancer in 2019.

The goal of the beach clean up was to share Luke’s vision and fill the beach with volunteers willing to spend a couple hours cleaning a space that is beloved by the Greenwich community.

“That’s why the cleanup is called ‘Live Like Luke,’ because he’s such an inspiring person and it’s something we should all strive to live for because he was such a selfless person,” stated Caitlin O’Brien, co-president of the Environmental Action Club at GHS.

The turnout was absolutely inspiring and resulted in a notable environmental impact on the beach; while also bringing an amazing group of local residents together to pool their time and efforts towards a very worthy cause!

“Thanks to the collective effort of the participants,” stated the Greenwich Green & Clean Facebook page, “with the support of our community partners and the Town of Greenwich, we succeeded in filling two dumpsters with debris removed from our coastline. We are ‘making changes in our community that not only benefit the environment, but through this, benefiting ourselves and all of those around us,’ as Luke so wisely expressed.”

Thanks to the hundreds of volunteers who turned out for the #LiveLikeLuke day at Tod’s Point + a HUGE ‘Thank You’ to Luke, PLUS his friends, teammates, classmates, and family for thinking of the environment and Tod’s Point!
