Greenwich Community Sailing is a community sailing and rental facility located in Greenwich Point Park on Long Island Sound.
In addition to our junior and adult learn to sail programs, we offer sailboat, kayak and paddle-board rentals, provide private lessons and host private events.
Learn to sail at GCS with two week sessions offered for ages 9 to 16!
Our Core Sailing Curriculum is the best way to learn to sail on the Long Island Sound. Our all-encompassing program covers everything from the basics all the way to the finer points of sailing.
Topics covered:: Water Safety; Knot Tying; Weather and Tides; Boat Handling Basics; Right of Way; Beach Takeoffs and Landings; Basic Navigation; Capsizing.
S2 is the second step in our curriculum! Students move from a single-sailed boat to a sloop rigged double handed dinghy. This class uses 14ft Hunter 140 sloops.
Topics covered: Helmsmanship; Jibing; Tacking; Docking; Sail Handling; Points of Sail; Upwind Sailing; Crew Work; Capsizing.
This course offers an exciting step up in performance to agile, sporty Laser 4.7s. In double-handed sailing drills, students learn heel control, basic aerodynamics, sail shape controls, and self-rescue techniques.
Topics covered: Sail Trim; Basic Aerodynamics; Heel Control; Sail; Shape Controls; Beach Landings; Capsize and Self-Rescue Techniques.
Our most challenging course is a ton of fun for students seriously interested in fine-tuning their sailing skills. Learn about hydrodynamics, racing skills, 'dry' capsizing, and more in this high energy class.

Waterbugs: This course is one of our favorites! Waterbugs is a one week learn-to-sail course for 8 and 9 year olds, perfect for those eager to get out on the water and have fun!
Kayaking Adventures: Kayaking Adventures offers all hands-on paddling fun, with daily kayak expeditions around Greenwich Cove and the Long Island Sound. Learn basic paddling techniques while commanding your own kayak.
Racing Techniques: This course is the highlight of our summer. Students learn yacht racing rules, strategy, and tactics in a week-long high-intensity Laser regatta. Diplomas and trophies awarded.
Ultimate Paddling: Experience the natural beauty of the Long Island Sound on a paddle-board. Instructors teach paddling techniques and provide excursions each day within the protected waters of the Greenwich Cove.
Introduction to Catamaran Sailing: Experience the exciting feel of sailing fast moving Hobie Waves through the Sound. Utilize basic sailing skills while mastering multihull handling techniques. Expect to get wet!
Advanced Catamaran Sailing: Learn the finer points of catamaran sailing on larger, faster Hobie Getaways. Don't forget to wear a bathing suit and hold on!
WaterCats: WaterCats is an all hands-on adventure week. With an instructor onboard each boat, you'll get supervised tiller time while sailing to local islands in a semi-private lesson format. Everyday is different!
