About Eagle Hill School

Founded in 1975, Eagle Hill is an independent, co-educational day and five-day boarding school for students ages 5-15 with language-based learning differences.

At Eagle Hill, our goal is to provide intensive, short-term remedial instruction to children with learning differences and return them to the educational mainstream as soon as possible. During their time at Eagle Hill, your child’s learning experience will be completely personalized. Each child is carefully evaluated and, based on the specific nature of his or her learning difference, a customized educational program is developed.

This individualized, skills-based program is taught by a highly credentialed faculty, uses personalized learning strategies, and is grounded in the latest research in educating students who learn differently.

The skills and strategies your child learns at Eagle Hill will prepare them for continued success in high school, college, and beyond.

Our program is designed for students who have:
-- A language-based learning difference, including but not limited to dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, executive functioning disorder, auditory processing disorder, and ADHD
-- Average to above-average cognitive ability
-- Fallen behind or have academic weakness in the areas of reading, writing, mathematics, and/or attention

Mission

Eagle Hill School, a life-changing experience, offers children who learn differently the opportunity to grow into capable, resilient students with the self-confidence and character necessary to meet the challenges they will face beyond Eagle Hill.

Philosophy

Eagle Hill offers a language-based, remedial program committed to educating children with learning disabilities. The curriculum is individualized, interdisciplinary, and transitional in nature. A secure, structured, nurturing environment supports and stimulates the development of the whole child. As a result, children learn to view themselves as competent individuals with a strong sense of self.

In an environment that recognizes and embraces diversity, Eagle Hill teaches children an array of strategies and skills to manage their learning disabilities effectively at school and at home. Eagle Hill helps children gain the self-esteem necessary to initiate, nurture, and maintain friendships. Inherent in the Eagle Hill philosophy is the development of children with strong moral and ethical character. Children leave Eagle Hill with confidence in their academic abilities, a true belief in their worth as human beings, and the strategies necessary to meet the challenges of their new school and social settings.

Academics

Personalized Academics, Exceptional Outcomes.

Our goal is to provide intensive, short-term, remedial instruction to children with learning differences, and return them to the educational mainstream as soon as possible.

At Eagle Hill School, we individualize our education program for each of our students, seamlessly incorporating instruction in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and social skills throughout the day.

While this means we can’t tell you exactly what your child’s academic schedule here will look like, we can tell you what the outcomes will be:
-- Confidence, understanding, independence - and a newfound love of learning.
-- Eagle Hill academics are founded in our unique approach.

We provide students with personalized instruction designed to increase listening, speaking, reading, writing, and social skills in an ungraded, non-competitive, goal-oriented setting.
-- Students build a close rapport with their teachers as they begin to strengthen their listening, speaking, reading, writing, and social skills.
-- Students learn skills and strategies to manage their learning differences effectively in school and at home. At the same time, they develop their self-esteem, friendship-building skills, and strong moral and ethical character.
-- Each student is challenged to take risks as they develop new skills and experience unfamiliar activities.

Children leave Eagle Hill School with confidence in their academic abilities, a true belief in their worth, and the strategies necessary to meet the challenges of new school and social settings.

Your child’s academic program will evolve with their progress.
When your child arrives at Eagle Hill, we will carefully evaluate their academic level and determine the nature of their challenges in order to develop their unique educational program. We will also determine if additional services are needed.

As your child grows and learns, we will evaluate their school division placement.
Eagle Hill does not assign students to specific grade levels. Therefore, decisions about placement in Lower School or Upper School are made based on individual student learning profiles and academic peer group appropriateness.

During your child’s final year, the academic focus will shift to transitioning from Eagle Hill.
Your child’s final year at Eagle Hill will help ensure their successful transition away from Eagle Hill. At this time, your child may be placed in a Language Arts program that provides preparation for return to a mainstream school.

My child arrived at Eagle Hill with low self-confidence, difficulties organizing his thoughts and grades behind in his academic subjects. The school provides small, structured classes taught with strategies that make comprehension possible. He has been able to take risks and succeed because they skillfully create an environment that encourages children and helps them to feel safe.
