Our philosophy reflects current thinking in the field of early childhood education and provides a strong foundation for all future learning and living.

Each child’s individuality is valued and nurtured and the curriculum is focused on encouraging your child’s developing sense of self. Parents are regarded as partners in the important role of raising children to be caring, responsible and creative Jewish adults. Through holiday celebrations, social functions, parent conferences and weekly newsletters, your family becomes a significant part of the community.

Chabad Preschool succeeds in creating a unique warm and friendly environment with caring teachers who are, above all, concerned about your child and shower the children with love and affection. Current thinking in the field of early childhood education echoes a statement by King Solomon, found in the Book of Proverbs: “Educate a child to his way, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Our comprehensive and developmentally appropriate program is designed to promote each child’s intellectual, social, physical and emotional growth. All games and activities are skill-based and goal oriented, so that the children grow with everything that they do.

The curriculum at our school is based on age-appropriate developmentally accepted practice. The classroom set up is comprised of learning centers which include blocks, art, dramatic play, books, manipulatives and scientific discovery.

These centers allow the children to have choices and to actively explore. They learn by interacting with their peers, teachers and the varying things in their environment. Each center has a specific aim and with the teacher’s guidance, helps the children’s emotional, cognitive and physical growth.

The daily schedule is planned to include active and quiet times, gross and fine motor activities and child-initiated as well as staff-initiated activities. Outdoor (weather permitting) or indoor play is scheduled each day. Planning for the classroom involves consideration to the age appropriateness for the group and individual aptness for each child. Being cognizant that every child learns differently, we use various mediums to teach each lesson. Children’s interests are explored through inquiry and research methods.

Thematic Units of Study

Our preschool curriculum is based on a thematic approach to learning.

Units of study are ideal for integrating concepts across the curriculum areas and giving learning greater context and meaning. The most powerful themes of the curriculum are derived from the Jewish holidays, the seasons, the natural world, the study of self, family and community, and from other subjects that are relevant to a children’s lives.

Each theme is explored through a variety of sub-topics. Additional areas of focus emerge to reflect the interests of the children. From these subjects, classroom activity plans are designed. The process of delving into a topic; asking questions, experimenting, making discoveries, and being deeply invested in the quest for understanding is so valuable to a child’s development. We aim to choose topics that pique children’s interests and then give them ample opportunity to explore as we facilitate their investigations and weave in learning concepts.

Curriculum plans incorporate each of the subject areas: language arts, math, science, social studies, art, music, and movement. The activities also engage multiple styles of learning: visual, aural, verbal, social, solitary, logical, and physical. As well, each domain of child development is considered when creating classroom plans: cognitive, social, emotional, physical, spiritual and creative.

Curriculum and Classes

Our curriculum is built on an interdisciplinary approach to learning. Subjects such as language arts, math, science, social studies and Judaic studies are integrated and emanate from a central concept or theme. We develop our most powerful themes from the Jewish and American holidays, family, community and nature. During the year, additional themes emerge which reflect the interests of the class. The cognitive, physical, social, emotional, spiritual and creative domains of child development are the cornerstones of curriculum planning at the Chabad Preschool. The Chabad Preschool offers classes for toddlers, Nursery 2’s, Nursery 3’s and pre-Kindergarten children
