Greenwich CT Spring

The spring colors in Greenwich – and, indeed, all of New England, are so fleeting. A seasonal delicacy. A temporary feast for pigment hungry eyes….

Late October brings the hues of gray – and they stick with us a solid six months.

Then there’s that one day when you’re driving past Binney Park, or Bruce Park, or down your very own driveway – and you notice a slight hint of green pushing through the winter colors.

A few days later, and the green grows darker, more insistent. A few days more, and the greens are joined by pinks, purples, oranges, reds, and yellows.

Like autumn in reverse, the landscape is painted in a colorful frenzy. The warmer weather takes hold. The dreary color palette of winter is finally pushed out of mind for the next half-year.

The festivals and fairs begin. Al fresco dining. Spring and summer fashions. Windows down in the car. Thoughts of beach days fill our minds. Ice cream and fried seafood. The buzz of lawnmowers. Pretty soon we’ll need the air conditioning…

Dogwood. Cherry. Crabapple. Eastern Red Bud. Lilac. More.

A rainbow of growth. A seasonal celebration of vibrant, lively activity.

And then, before we even have the chance to fully perceive it, the colors mature. They grow deeper. Spring morphs into summer. Crystal clear mornings. Sunglasses. Road trips. Cookouts. Sunsets. Outdoor social events. Crickets chirping in the moonlight. Humid breezes blowing through thick, verdant foliage.

These are the days we’ll be dreaming about when they’re gone, once again. Let’s all slow down and enjoy them while they’re still actually here…
