Independence Day Flag Raising in Greenwich

In a return to local tradition, the town of Greenwich held the annual Flag Raising Ceremony at Town Hall on July 4th.

After a one-year hiatus, attendees were once again welcomed to witness the Greenwich Scouts parade the flags of the 13 colonies, honor the patriots who served in the American Revolution, and celebrate the raising of the classic 13-star Betsy Ross flag by the Independence Day Association.

Representatives of Greenwich such as First Selectman Fred Camillo and State Representatives Jim Himes and Harry Arora attended the event with Camillo addressing the audience.

Other speakers at the event included student Ben Seamen, who read a poem on behalf of the Arch Street Teen Center and a community representative discussed the 100th anniversary of Women’s Suffrage and honored suffragists from Greenwich.

To cap off the proceedings, a 21-gun salute was conducted in honor of fallen patriots from Greenwich.

Additionally, The Sound Beach Community Band performed following the event and cake was available in Town Hall to celebrate America’s birthday.
