As late August arrives in Greenwich, there’s a certain quietude about our town that makes it the perfect part of the summer season to enjoy some of our favorite local spots for fun in the sun!

Camps are over. Many families are traveling out of town, taking their last summer trips of the year. There are less people. Fewer lines. Less traffic. More parking spaces. Smaller crowds. Plus the weather is still incredible! There is truly no better time to take the ferry over to Island Beach!

Island Beach, also known as Little Captain’s Island, is an idyllic destination located in Long Island Sound approximately two miles south of Greenwich Harbor. During the summer months (from early June until mid-September), the island is accessible via a ferry service from the landing at Roger Sherman Park (off Arch St.).

The Ferry ride is a relaxing treat. A quick 25 minute float across the glistening water, offering lovely views of the Greenwich shoreline and Long Island Sound.

MAKE A DAY OF IT: Pack a cooler or grab a burger at the snack bar, lounge with a good book under the many shade trees, play or rest on the sandy beach.
