Living Greenwich caught up with Barbara Ripp, neighbor and Board member of the Malta House, a home for mothers and pregnant women in need of help. The mission of Malta House: “to promote the dignity of God-given life by providing a nurturing home environment, support services and independent living skills to pregnant and parenting mothers of all faiths and to their babies.”

Barbara will be honored for her work supporting Malta House at its Annual Gala, May 14th at the Woodway Country Club in Darien.

This weekend marked the 70th Anniversary of this annual local rite of spring. Started in 1946, the Pow Wow was originally organized as a springtime celebration to benefit the students. Flash forward 7 decades and the crowds are still arriving en masse to take part in the carnivalesque atmosphere made possible through the selfless work of a sizable army of enthusiastic volunteers.

Have you ever seen a turtle sunning itself on a log and thought to yourself, “Damn, I wish I could tell someone about this?”

Well apparently there is a group that is waiting for your call. It is called the Connecticut Turtle Atlas, and it encourages everyone to report the “location and abundance of any turtles they see from April through November.” The local arm of this group is run by the Bruce Museum Citizen Science initiative, which is now starting its second year.

Dogs are prohibited from the Greenwich Parks starting Friday, April 1'st until the last day of November, according to the Town of Greenwich Parks Policy.
