Think back to your very first apartment on your own. You’re probably conjuring images of hand-me- down furniture scrounged from your parents’ basement, bare walls, flea market dishes, and perhaps even the cliche milk-crate coffee table. Don’t let this happen to your own children (or your nieces, nephews, grand kids, or heck, your friends’ kids).

GRADUATION PARTIES 101: Q&A With a Planning Pro

GRADUATION PARTIES 101: Q&A With a Planning Pro

As "graduation season" is upon us, we checked in with Greenwich events expert, Madalene Benoist d’Etiveaud of Bash Weddings & Events, for her go-to advice.

TIMING

What’s the best time to host a graduation party with so much end-of- the-year- event competition, especially on weekends?

I encourage people to check with the graduate’s friends to avoid a date conflict, so that everyone can attend each party. Graduation gatherings are typically held the first Friday or Saturday night after graduation, especially for high schoolers, however, college graduates tend to spread out festivities during the month of May. The college set prefers to celebrate at school with classmates, then continue festivities a few weeks later at home with their high school friends and extended family. First and foremost, high school graduates should consider dates that work for their family, sports teams, and neighbors -- more than one party on the street can restrict parking.

Byram Veteran's Association Memorial Day Parade

Byram Veteran's Association Memorial Day Parade

For many, Memorial Day weekend is the kick-off to summer, filled with barbecues and beaches...but it's important to take some time out to reflect on the true meaning of the holiday and pay respect to those who fought and died while serving their country to protect the freedoms that Americans enjoy.

On Sunday, May 29th the Byram Veteran's Association held their annual Memorial Day parade. The weather was perfect and the turnout was enthusiastic in their observance of what this weekend is all about.

The weather cooperated this weekend for the Bruce Museum’s 31st Annual Outdoor Crafts Festival on Saturday and Sunday, where more than 70 artisans were on hand showing their one-of-a-kind ceramics, wearable art and other fine crafts.

“The Outdoor Crafts Festival attracts a large audience to the museum not only because it offers such a wide variety of work, but also because of its reputation for excellence,” says Sue Brown Gordon, the Museum Festival organizer. “Patrons also love the opportunity to interact directly with the highly-skilled artists and artisans who come from all over the country.”
