Greenwich Puts Patriotism on Display for the 4th of July

Greenwich is a town that knows how to give Independence Day the recognition it deserves.

That's why the red, white and blue was everywhere this 4th of July weekend - at Greenwich Avenue, the Mianus River Bridge, Binney Park, Greenwich Point Park, and beyond! Thanks to town officials, business owners, and ardent local residents - the entire landscape seemed awash in patriotic colors and beaming with American spirit.

The 4th of July holiday weekend is upon us and the Greenwich real estate market is taking the weekend off to celebrate our nation’s birthday. There are only a couple of open houses on the calendar right now - so we featured both of them for any of you who may be in the market.

As for recent sales, this past week the Greenwich real-estate market again saw a number of house closings with the majority of sales occurring on properties in the $1-2MM price range. In addition, the majority of the sales appear to be related to more recent property listings from the spring market.

Olivia Hallisey Visits the Riverside Math Club for Girls Only

Olivia Hallisey Visits the Riverside Math Club for Girls Only

On Monday night aspiring girl STEM students heard from one of their own. Olivia Hallisey, GHS rising Senior and local celebrity by virtue of winning the Google Global Science Award, and her Science mentor Mr. B (Andrew Bramante) talked to the girls about what it’s like to pursue their STEM passions in the Greenwich High School Science Lab program.

For those unfamiliar with the Riverside Math Club for Girls Only, it started 5 years ago, founded by Brian Peldunas. When his daughter Julia came home from Riverside school and announced that she was the only girl among 15 boys in her 3rd grade advanced math class, Brian knew they could do better. So he started the Math Club For Girls Only on the premise that a little math enrichment now would pay big dividends for the girls in middle school, and eventually in High School and beyond.

Bruce Museum Seaside Center Opens With 'Experience the Sound'

Sunday was a spectacular day in Greenwich and especially at Greenwich Point Park where the beach was packed with happy residents enjoying the summer breeze and blue skies.

Granted, a day at the beach and some idyllic weather is more than enough for most - but there was also another excellent reason to visit the beach this weekend! Sunday marked the opening of the Bruce Museum Seaside Center which celebrated with the Town of Greenwich Shellfish Commission’s event Experience the Sound: From Streams Through Soil to Sea.

For our 'Featured Open House Property' this week, we've chosen to shine the light on a spectacular new construction on the water in Lucas Point. The home, built by award-winning Karp Associates, has spectacular views of Greenwich Cove. After all, who doesn't dream of a home with a water view?

As for recent sales activity, this week we saw a much larger number of home sales recorded in town than in weeks past. Moreover, a number of the sales involved higher-end mid and back-country properties.  It is likely that it's way too early to consider this to be a trend; however, it is nice to see the flurry of activity in the local marketplace.

Local Soccer Coach Donates Used Equipment to Children in Need

Local Soccer Coach Donates Used Equipment to Children in Need

Jorge Acosta has been teaching soccer in Greenwich for the Mickey Kydes Soccer Program since 1997. When he started here, he noticed that after every season a good amount of gently used uniforms, balls, cleats, and other gear are discarded. Jorge knew that children in his hometown in Colombia, South America would absolutely love to have this equipment.

So Jorge took it upon himself to gather up the equipment at the end of each season and personally bring it to the children back home in Barranquilla, Colombia. He’s made the trip every year since 2003.
