Are you looking to try something new? Looking for fresh ideas about how to fill a sunny summer afternoon somewhere other than Tod’s Point?
How about an afternoon with the family at The Griff followed by a casual meal and a cold beverage on the patio at Birdie’s Restaurant before heading home?
What is The Griff you ask?
The Griffith E. Harris Golf Course, affectionately referred to as “The Griff”, is located on 158.6 acres on King Street in Greenwich, CT. Designed in 1963 by renowned architect Robert Trent Jones, Sr., the facilities include an 18-hole par 71 golf course, Administration Building, full service Pro Shop, clubhouse and restaurant, driving range, a putting green, chipping green, and practice bunker.
The course challenges the player with varied topography. The front nine is situated on former farmland and is relatively long and open, favoring the longer hitter. The back nine, shorter and tighter, winds through hills and forest, and places a premium on control and accuracy.
Head PGA Professional Joe Felder
When you arrive at The Griff you may be greeted by the resident PGA Professional Joe Felder or a member of his helpful staff. Known for his engaging demeanor and work with junior golfers, Joe is a legend at The Griff having overseen its operations for the better part of 30 years.
Recently, in recognition of all his efforts both at The Griff and service within the community in general, Joe was awarded the auspicious PGA Professional of the Year Award by the Metropolitan Golf Association.
Joe runs one of the best junior golf programs in the area having graduated over 750 students from his acclaimed Junior Golf Program. So, if you are thinking about introducing your children to the game of golf there is no better place for them to get started.
About The Griff
The Griff is a full-service golf facility with a driving range, putting green and teaching staff available to the public.
The Griff is the only non-private golf course in town and is open to play to both members and non-members alike.
Need a Tee Time? No problem. Members and non-members alike can take advantage of The Griff’s automated Tee Time reservation system.
In addition to the golf course and driving range the professional staff at The Griff is always available to help a new player get started with the game or to help a more experienced player iron out some bad habits.
Or if you are simply in the market for some new equipment, golf balls or apparel stop into the pro-shop. Joe carries a wide selection of golf gear – there is something for everyone.
Hungry from all that activity?
Worry not! The team at Birdie’s Restaurant is always available to serve up a great breakfast or lunch overlooking the 10th tee on a hot summer’s day (often accompanied by a cold beverage)!
The Griff is a great alternative to another day at the beach. Bring the family and introduce your aspiring golfer to Joe and his team. They will take great care of you.
