Greenwich Water Club – Squash Grand Opening

On Friday night November 1, 2019 the Greenwich Water Club celebrated the Grand Opening of its new “best-in-class” Greenwich Water Club Squash House.

On hand to commemorate the Grand Opening event were friends and members of the Greenwich Water Club as well as squash players and fans from around the area. After opening remarks, the ceremonial ribbon cutting was performed by Brian Luby, Beacon Point Marine, Boat Sales Manager, Rick Kral, owner of the Greenwich Water Club, Phil Barker, the new Director of Squash, and Mike Wieneke, Director, Programs & Member Services at the Greenwich Water Club.

Attendees were free to tour the new facility, demo equipment from Technifibre and Ria Eyeware and enjoy some first class squash play as Greenwich’s own Chris Hanson (US #1 ranked squash player) took the court with SQUASH:ED’s Jaymie Haycocks for a great exhibition match after the ceremony.

GWC Squash House – Something for Everyone

Located on the grounds of the former Cos Cob Inn on River Road in Cos Cob, the GWC Squash House will provide area players of all skill levels with a local, state-of-the-art facility in which to play, practice and train.

The new GWC Squash House is home to three single courts and one North American doubles court - all built by industry leader Anderson Courts. In addition to the top-flight courts, the newly renovated facility will provide players with additional amenities including full locker rooms, a pro shop and social spaces. Finally, the facility will be open year-round allowing squash players of all levels the opportunity to find matches, test their skills and learn from an amazing team of professionals led by Phil Barker, the new Director of Squash.

Phil and his team from SQUASH:ED will be overseeing and directing all of the coaching and training programs for both junior players and adults. These programs will focus on player development to the finest detail - enhancing the chances for every squash player to achieve their potential via thorough and cutting-edge training methods.

In addition to hands-on coaching and training, Phil’s team will carefully craft matches, programs and tournaments that will allow all squash members, both young and old, to compete at their desired level in a judgement-free safe space which welcomes all levels of intensity and experience.
