This year’s show, located at the Greenwich Water Club right here in Cos Cob, has something for everyone – mariners and land-lubbers alike: Fishing boats, day cruisers, pontoon boats as well as a full complement of luxury vessels. It’s a great weekend activity for the whole family and its FREE!
To get a real flavor of this “rite of spring” event, Living Greenwich spent some time catching up with the GBS director, Karen Piscitelli, to learn more about the upcoming show and all that it has to offer.
LG: How long have you been working with the show?
Karen: This is the eighth year of the Greenwich Boat Show and we are expecting it to be our best event yet.
LG: What makes the GBS such a popular event within the Greenwich community?
Karen: I think it is the great support we get from both the community and our participating dealers. Our reputation has grown over the years, letting us be known as the most unique in water show, drawing key clientele from the surrounding area. No other show lets you walk the docks and take the boats out for sea-trials, we actually encourage you to test drive different models to see how they ride. It is the only show of its kind. Our guests are treated to the finest and most complete array of new boat brands.
This year, GBS will have eighteen of the best dealers in the region, representing forty different powerboat brands - a complete selection of luxury, sport fishing and cruisers. There will be over one hundred and sixteen new boats in the water and ready to go out for sea-trial. And, this year we have a new land sponsor bringing two of the newest Lamborghini models on the market. There will certainly be something for everyone to see and enjoy over the weekend.
Boaters in the market for high-end, luxury vessels can test such brands as Chris Craft, Tiara, Bavaria Yachts, Jeanneau, Back Cove, Southport Boats, MJM, Carver and Formula. They’ll also be able to try yachts from Sabre, Hunt Yachts, Vanquish, Galeon, Meridian and SeaLine.
Anglers hoping to reel in a new fishing boat will have plenty to consider. They can test sportfishing vessels like Everglades, Scout, Grady White, Pursuit, Cape Horn, Boston Whaler and Regulator. They’ll also get to try great fishing boats from Sea Pro, Release, Edgewater, Sea Fox, World Cat and Robalo.
Families looking for that perfect cruising vessel will get the chance to try such brands as Sea Ray, Monterey, Carolina Cat, Chaparral, Regal, FourWinns and pontoon boats from Premier Pontoons and Bennington.
LG: What sets the GBS apart from other boat shows in the area?
Karen: Since the inception, GBS is still the only in-water boat show to offer its guests free sea-trials. This year is no different, all boats are ready to test-drive, and the show itself is free. There is really nothing that can compare to driving one of these beautiful boats and seeing how it feels and handles on the open waters of Long Island Sound.
LG: Do you have anything special planned for this year’s event?
Karen: This year we are sponsoring a sweepstakes contest. There will be two prize packages awarded: one - a wonderful Saturday night stay in the exclusive Banyon Suite Quarters at the Cos Cob Inn directly across the street from the GBS (www.coscobinn.com). The evening at the Inn includes a complementary invitation to the private GBS cocktail party Saturday afternoon. The other prize is a state of the art Garmin eTrex hand held GPS. So, something fun for everyone.
LG: Wow! It sounds as though you have an amazing weekend planned.
Karen: There is such great energy around the show. It’s a pleasure to be involved in such a successful event.
LG: Any last “words of wisdom” for those considering stopping by?
Karen: Yes – if you are interested in experiencing some of the best watercraft on the Sound, please book your sea-trial in advance - and don’t forget to throw your “hat in the ring” for a chance to win a prize in the GBS sweepstakes contest. The drawing to pick the winner will be held on March 29th.
LG: Karen – thank you again for taking the time to share all of this with us. We can’t wait to stop by the show and take in the atmosphere.
Karen: My pleasure – look forward to seeing you there!
