January 13 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm

On Sunday, January 13th, visit Greenwich Library for a FREE CONCERT by Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks! Doors open at 3pm!

Renowned for preserving the authentic style of 1920-30s jazz and popular music, Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks have been performing for more than four decades. Bandleader Vince Giordano was born and raised in Brooklyn and Long Island, New York, and his passion for vintage music began at age five when he discovered stacks of 78 rpm records in his grandmother’s attic. He began playing the violin, switched to the tuba, and then added the string bass and bass saxophone. In 1976, Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks was formed and they became well-known on the New York music scene, performing at nightclubs, the Rainbow Room, Carnegie Hall, and numerous jazz and music festivals around the world.

Giordano’s early appearances with Leon Redbone and A Prairie Home Companion and Francis Ford Coppola’s film The Cotton Club led to working with Dick Hyman’s Orchestra in half a dozen Woody Allen soundtracks. In 2012, Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks were nominated for a Grammy for best compilation for visual media for their work on Boardwalk Empire Volume 1 – Music from the HBO Original Series. The band members have also been on-screen actors in Martin Scorsese’s award-winning HBO series Boardwalk Empire and the band’s compilation CD of music from the show received a Grammy award in 2012.  For more than 40 years, Vince and the Nighthawks have single-handedly kept alive a genre of American music that continues to shape our culture.
